Step 1: The Estimate

Step 2: Setup and Protection
On the day of the job, our team arrives with everything needed. First we protect your home:

- Furniture or bathroom items moved out of the way
This step takes longer than people expect, and that’s a good thing. Proper protection prevents damage to floors, fixtures, and surrounding walls.
Step 3: Stripping and Cleaning
We remove all old caulk around the tub. Then comes the deep clean: industrial cleaners that lift years of soap residue, body oils, mineral deposits, and cleaning product buildup that household products can’t touch. This step is critical — if the surface isn’t truly clean, the new finish won’t bond.
Step 4: Repairs
Any chips, cracks, pitting, or rust spots are repaired before refinishing. High-strength filler is applied and sanded smooth. On cast iron tubs with rust, the rust is fully treated and sealed. This is where experience matters most — repairs done poorly will telegraph through the new finish.
Step 5: Sanding and Etching
The entire tub surface is sanded to give the new finish something to grip. This isn’t aggressive sanding that removes material — it’s a controlled deglossing that creates microscopic texture for the bonding agent. Without this step, the new coating will peel.
Step 6: Final Cleaning and Masking
After sanding, the tub is wiped down again to remove all dust. Then we apply final masking around the tub edges, faucets, drain, and overflow to protect everything from the spray.
Step 7: Bonding Agent
A bonding agent (sometimes called an adhesion promoter) is sprayed onto the surface. This creates the chemical link between your old tub and the new finish. Skipping this step is one of the most common shortcuts in low-quality reglazing jobs.
Step 8: The New Finish
Multiple coats of commercial-grade reglazing compound are sprayed on using professional HVLP spray equipment. This creates the smooth, glossy, factory-quality finish that distinguishes a real reglaze from a paint job. We use low-VOC formulations that are safer for your home and the environment.
The spray application is what people picture when they think of reglazing — but it’s actually the fastest part of the process. Most of the day is prep.
Step 9: Inspection and Cleanup
We inspect the finish for any imperfections, drips, or uneven spots. The masking comes off carefully. We clean up everything — your bathroom should be cleaner when we leave than when we arrived. The drop cloths come up, our equipment goes back in the truck, and we walk you through the aftercare instructions.
Step 10: Cure Time
This is the part you do. The new finish needs about 24 hours to cure in normal Long Island weather, up to 36 hours in cold months. During this time:
- Don’t use the tub
- Don’t touch the surface
- Keep pets and kids away from the bathroom
- Keep the bathroom door open or ventilated
After the cure time, you can use the tub normally — shower, soak, the whole deal.
